Spatial analysis as a part of design loop

Our biggest ambition is to create a product which allows urban practitioners to integrate analysis of future project effects to their daily practice, turning analysis into a natural part of a design process at early project stages.  Urban Calculator allows for early assessment in the starting phase of a project, when the critical decisions are… Continue reading Spatial analysis as a part of design loop

Our vision: from speculative towards evidence-based urban design and planning

We deem it crucial to change the way cities are planned and designed and advocate and from speculative towards evidence-based planning.

An evidence-based approach is currently not a natural part of the design process when new neighbourhoods are planned. What is quite common instead, is to isolate a project from its context and evaluate planned neighbourhoods when the design is already completed, and it is already too late to make any changes.

The TWIN2EXPAND project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe WIDERA program, brings together a consortium of leading European research institutions, including University College London (UCL), Polytechnic University of Turin, Chalmers University of Technology and Space Syntax Limited.… Continue reading TWIN2EXPAND

How does Urban Calculator contribute to Sustainable Development Agenda?

In line with the Sustainable Development agenda, urban environments should, besides providing equal access to services, become more walkable to reduce car-dependency and CO2 emissions. According to NACTO (2013), cars and trucks account for 40% of all CO2 emissions across the globe.  Urban Calculator supports the design of walkable environments reducing car dependency and the… Continue reading How does Urban Calculator contribute to Sustainable Development Agenda?
